Acer TimelineX 1830T-1327

Unfortunately the fan noise on the MSI Wind u100 netbook was unbearable, thus I was force to sell my netbook. I love my MacBook Pro, but even at 13 inches, I at thought at times that it was to bulky to carry around on my man purse. I was seriously looking on purchasing an 11 inch MacBook Air, but the price was just to high for the hardware that I’m getting. I researched some of the 11 inch Dell notebooks/netbooks, but it appears that Dell is selling them with AMD chips. Given the long and bad history that I’ve had owning laptops with AMD chips in them, I was forced to look elsewhere.

On my weekly visit to Microcenter I saw the Acer TimelineX on display and immediately tarted analyzing its specs. At $699 with an Intel Core i5 (1.2Ghz), 4 GB DDR3 RAM and a 500GB 5400 rpm, I decided to buy the notebook that same day with even without researching its Linux hardware compatibility. The laptop came with Windows 7 Home Edition, so immediately once I powered up the laptop I installed Ubuntu.

With Ubuntu, the only problem that I had was getting the wireless to work. This was something that didn’t surprised me given that the laptop has a Broadcom wireless chipset. Luckily, enabling the restricted wireless driver got the wireless working. The laptop runs dead silent and haven’t problem hibernating and resuming on the computer. The only quirk when resuming back, even from screen saver, is that I have to manually trigger the keys to turn on the wireless card. Other than that, this little computer runs Ubuntu really well and at half the cost of a MacBook Air!!

Also, I have the ability to upgrade to 8 GB’s of RAM and add an SSD drive if I decide too, can MacBook Air owners do that? haha…

Filled with disgust

Like if over a million people jailed each year in the U.S. alone for drug possession is not enough, yet another example by Hollywood’s pop culture demonstrates our failed drug policy. On the same day another mayor of a Mexican border city gets executed by Mexican organized crime, it’s absolutely disgusting see the grin on Paris Hilton’s mug shot from her arrest for cocaine possession.

If only Miss Hilton went South of the border were she can stand at the doorway of a home (with no electricity and little food) watching the agony and pain of a mother of a young man who was just executed by a rival cartel. This young man, due to economic circumstances; only responsibility in his life was to take care of his mother and family, by smuggling drugs. Which at the end of the day he’ll only be able to carry water and bring some food to his mother and family. He should NOT have to do that but THAT is the real life. I wonder how much that would change the life of precious Paris? I am certain it would, somehow. These Hollywood superstars who “carry the torch for the poor and weary”….right!!! they want their drugs and they want them “now!” They are all co conspirators of murder, at least in my mind.

This incident reminds of the day when the US Senate Judiciary Committee decided not to prosecute Michael Phelps for drug charges, which happened at the same time the Police Chief of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico was executed along with five of his body guards.

It is absolutetly disgusting to see these famous people be gloried and go about with total impunity.

Narco culture

As I’m simultaneously listening to my neighbors music and the music that’s being played in my own house; the thing they both have in common is that both are playing narcocorridos.

As far as I know, there is no other culture in the world that listens to, glorifies, and embraces the one single thing that is destroying their very own civil society.

Both the factory hard drive and 500 GB Western Digital hard drive seem to be failing. I ran the extended Apple hardware diagnostic test and the core hard ware passed the test (hd not tested).

Lesson learned here … Thank god for backups.

New Primary laptop

It’s been over a week since I purchased my new 13 in MacBook Pro, and I finally managed to fully transfer all of my files from my old white plastic MacBook. Even though I bought the Core 2 Duo instead of the 15 in i5 MacBook Pro, this laptop is by and the the best machine I’ve ever owned. The only problem is the stock 2 GB that the laptop come with. It is very noticeable when I have VirtualBox running in the background. So I’m planning on upgrading the RAM to 4 GB within a month so.
